Oh, Snow!

Growing up on the West Coast of Australia where the winter doesn't really get lower than 15 degrees, I don't really think I was quite prepared for an English winter. I arrived in London on the 3rd of February to 1 degree. When I got off the plane the force of the wind hit me and my reality started sinking in of what was to come. The wind was icy cold but I was excited that I might finally, for the first time in my life, get to see snow!

Travelling back from London to my first destination in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire a sheet of white covered the streets, roof tops, cars, trees and fields. I wish I took more photos of what I saw, It was absolutely beautiful. The crunch of the ice under my boot, the way the sunlight hit the trees, the mist floating through the crisp air, the stillness, all things I will never forget. Especially the way it made me feel. It was everything I imgined it would be and my mind went to thoughts of what a white Christmas would look like!

There wasn't enough snow to make a snowman though so that is still high on my bucket list! Perhaps there will be some when I travel up to Ireland or Scotland.

Ramsey is a beautiful old farming town set amongst large green fields which is where my adventure starts. Legend has it that it was named after the victorious animal in a fight that took place between a ram and a bull. I'll be here for just over a week and a half, the first few days to get over my jet lag and the next week spent with Chris, who will show me some of the sights this side of England.

The biggest aim for me over the next few weeks will be to adjust to the temperature. When I left Perth it was scorching hot and in the high 30's and early 40's but I'm sure with new surroundings and things to see I shall be fine.
